Openo River steam barge

Date of Photo: March-May 1935 by Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard
Openo River steam barge
A river steam barge photographed from a railed jetty. This image is part of a film almost certainly of a trip to view the Openo River. Evans-Pritchard mentions that he observed the Openo Anyuak (Jo-Badu-Openo) only from the deck of a steamer, stopping at villages briefly only twice. He probably traversed it as far as Gambela judging by the landscape of winding channels and plains.
