May 12 , 2007 (GAMBELLA) - Two asphalt road construction projects would be launched in Gambella State soon as part of the five-year road sector development program (RSDP), the state rural roads authority said.
Authority General Manager, Demelash Yadete said that the upgrading of existing 247-km Bure-Gambella and Gambella-Itang-Ginkawo gravel roads would be launched shortly.
The road projects due to be launched with over one billion Birr are among the seven road projects to be executed at a cost of 2.3 billion Birr budget as per the RSDP.
The fund for the execution of the road construction projects would be secured from the government, loans and grants.
The necessary preparations are well-underway to launch the remaining projects, he said, designing and surveying activities are well in progress to launch the remaining road construction projects.
The execution of the stated roads projects is believed to have significant contribution to development of socio-economic sectors.
The Gambella-Itang-Ginkawo road connects Ethiopia with the Sudan.
