December 10, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Minister of Federal Affairs Dr. Shiferaw Tekelemariam urged administrative bodies at all levels in Gambella State to further intensify commitment with a view to ensuring benefits of the public through speeding up ongoing development and good governance activities.
In an interview with ENA at the closing of a three-day meeting aimed at evaluating performance of Federal Government Special Support Board, the minister said the federal government will further strengthen assistance to regions that need special support.
He said development goals can be achieved if administrative bodies and the public make use of vast land, water resource and labor available in the area.
There is favorable situation to construct safe water, education, health, agriculture, and other development projects through mobilizing the public, he added.
Dr. Shiferaw said prime attention should be attached to enabling farmers and pastoralists attain food security through improving their settlement and enabling them become familiar with improved technologies.
Chief of the state, Umud Ubong on his part said assistance of the federal government in education, health safe water provision, and agriculture sectors brought about encouraging results to accelerate development activities.
Senior officials drawn from the ministries of federal affairs, health, agriculture and rural development, and Gambella and South Ethiopia Peoples’ states attended the meeting.
