NGOs urged to bolster dev’t participation

November 24, 2009 (Addis Ababa) --- Mayor of the Addis Ababa City Administration, Kuma Demeksa, called on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to bolster their participations in the efforts being made to attain the millennium development goals (MDGs).

Speaking at the 38th founding anniversary of Hope Enterprise recently, Kuma said through his representative that NGOs need to join hands and work in collaboration with the government so as to fulfill the development and socio-economic demand of the community.

He said Hope Enterprise has done tremendous efforts in line with strategies and policies of the government so as to raise education coverage in the country over the past 38 years.

He finally urged the enterprise to maximize its efforts and assist efforts of the Ethiopian government to achieve the MDGs in the education sector.

Hope Enterprise Director General, Zenebe Ayele, on his part said the enterprise is providing education to more than 3,269 students by building 6 schools in Amhara, Oromia, Gambella, Benshangul Gumuz states and Addis Ababa City Administration.

Moreover, the enterprise is providing various supports to 2,130 students learning in government schools as well as training 950 adults in night school programs.

He further said the enterprise is training 377 youth in 6 fields of study in Addis Ababa, Gambella and Desse towns as well as constructing university college that could enroll 1,500 students at Nefas Silk Lafto Sub city.
