Ethiopia-Sudan Border Meeting held in Gambella

March 7, 2010 (Gambella) — Minister of Federal Affairs, Dr. Shiferaw Tekelemariam urged people living in the Ethio-Sudan border areas to synchronize efforts toward ensuring sustainable development and good-governance in the regions.

Dr. Shiferaw said neighboring regions and the peoples of the two sisterly countries shall exert utmost efforts toward ensuring rapid and sustainable development, peace and stability, and democracy in border areas.

The minister made the call on Saturday while addressing at a joint consultative meeting of the Gambela Regional State and two adjacent districts of the Sudan held in Gambela town.

Dr. Shiferaw said the incumbent Ethiopian government has been playing its level best toward enhancing the economic and cultural relations of the two neighboring countries to a higher level.

Speaking at the occasion, leader of the Sudanese delegation, General Chang said the Sudanese government will remain committed toward scaling up ensuring commendable Ethio-Sudan bilateral relations in general, and ensuring development, peace, and stability in border areas in particular.

Chief of the Gambela State Administration, Omod Obang said on his part the regional government will do everything possible to ensure sustainable development as well as dependable peace and stability along the Ethio-Sudan border areas.

At the conclusion of the joint consultative meeting, Federal affairs Minister Dr. Shiferaw Tekelemariam and General Chang signed an agreement to launch additional development projects in bordering areas.
