July 31, 2010 (Gambella) - Gambella State has finalized preparations to resettle 45,000 households in fertile areas voluntarily beginning this Ethiopian budget year, State's agriculture and rural development bureau said.
Bureau representative, Mulugeta Tsedalu told ENA that the households were are living in flood affected areas and sparsely inhabited.
The resettlement program will be carried out for three years, he said and added, 15,000 households will be resettled in 70 localities in this Ethiopian year.
He said the resettlement and densely inhabited will contribute to expand infrastructure facilities as well as to prevent possible natural disaster including flood.
He said the program will also contribute a lot to ensure food security and sustainable development in the state.
According to the representative, technical committee comprised of Federal and state sectoral offices was organized for the implementation of the program.
