September 2, 2010 (Gambella) - A project funded through the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GCGP) was inaugurated in Gambella State, on Thursday 2 September, 2010.
According to a press release, Dr. Kumiko Ito, Counselor of the Embassy of Japan, inaugurated the project together with President of the Gambella State, Umed Ubong, Executive Director of the implementing NGO and members of the community.
The main purpose of the project is to improve agricultural production and the marketing system in Gambella Zuria and Itang woredas through the provision of agricultural training and equipment for the newly established four agricultural cooperative and two dairy cooperative groups in those woredas.
Dr. Kumiko Ito on the occasion said the government of Japan has supported this project financially to enhance the agricultural productivity and promote social welfare through the GCGP.
On the same day, another GCGP-funded project was inaugurated in Durame, in Kambata –Tembaro zone of the SNNP State.
Yoshinori KITAMURA, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan, celebrated the completion of three ManaBU-type school blocks, together with representatives of the zone, as well as members of the community.
Japan has extended a total of 186,330 USD for the execution of the two projects.
