April 6, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives Ambassador Teshome Toga said holding consultations with children and encouraging them to express their demands and needs will contribute its share in the effort of realizing developed, democratic and prosperous Ethiopia

The Addis Ababa Millennium Celebration Office organized a half-day discussion between children and senior government officials here on Saturday at parliament in connection with a millennium children and family week, which is being celebrated from March 31-April 5, 2008.
Speaking at the discussion, ambassador Teshome said investing on children is crucial and useful as they are the future of the country.
Ambassador Teshome urged the children to be hard working on their education as it is the basis to effectively discharge their duties and responsibilities.
City millennium office Executive Director Kiros Hailesellasie on his part said the office in collaboration with pertinent bodies has been organizing various events in connection with children and family week.
Religious leaders visited various orphan centers during the week and various awareness raising activities on the right, benefit and wellbeing of children have been undertaken.
The children and the officials discussed on ways of creating community that safeguards children's right and benefit, and on ways of preventing abuses on children, among others.
At the end of the meeting the children issued a resolution which requests to stop violence against children.
Te resolution also called for further amendments on laws and working procedures to ensure children rights. Furthermore, it called on the mass media to increase coverage on children.
