I have read Mr Okal Langu article "The Anyuak Luo Identity Issues
Beseech Action
". I didn't understand what Mr Okal Langu is after? I got
confuse of what really he wants to communicate because his arguments
are conflicting. I would like him to make his point a bit clear. I would
like him to answer these queations for me to get a clear picture of what
he wants to convey to the Anyuak or the entire Luo family. Did Anyuak
deny Luo identity or he is denying them? Did the Anyuaks reject the
plan to establish Luo language as a lingua franca or they claim that
Anywaa language should be lingua franca within the Luo families? Do he
wants what Anyuaks had achieved already to be nullify? For example, he
mentioned ACANA and maybe things like "Anywaa language" or the name of
tribe the "Anywaa"?

Please, I would appreciate Mr Okal to answer these questions before I
respond.

Lastly, "Wikipedia" is not academically a recommended reference. Please,
would he widen his search out of "Wikipedia" a little bit and see others
areas that gives more information about Anywaa?

Thank you,

Dear Okall,

Thank you for bringing the topic "The Anyuak Luo Identity Issues Beseech Action", I do respect your point of view regarding the Anyuak, but I think you need to make more research about Anyuak facts before posting such an important topic or at least consult Anyuak intellectuals who could brief you more about Anyuak. There are many history books rich of Anyuak history in libraries where you can read about the Anyuak and cite your contents rather that citing from the wikipedia. Sir, Wikipedia, though it is a good source, is not recommended for citing such and important topic. You cannot trace who post what on the wikipedia that is why many educational institutions discourage wikipedia for their research.

There is no question the Anyuak being a Lou. Otherwise throwing such question on the web will expose some weaknesses that are supposed to be dealt-with in-house in close doors. Dear brother, I encourage you to come up with a workshop or a forum where brainstorming on "Anyuak and its origin" can be discussed and will benefit all, specially the generations to come. Together we can power Luo to shine in the skies.

Thank you again. The "APPENDIX" part is great, I would recommend its expansions to become a 'Luo Dictionary' and include the rest of Lou communities. Similarities and difference. This could be a good opportunity for those who want to specialize in Luo studies for further studies. Concerning wikipedia, you can form committees who can feed wikipedia with the right information, putting into consideration the political inspiration and view of the Groups concerned.

My apology for taking much of your time, making long thread.

Kind regards,
Friday Awow Okuch

Mr.Okall thanks more again for 2nd Luo meeting.

The article you have written the question of it is waving around the answer itself. I can say analysis is not the only way to resolve the inner identity. we may be many but what the Luo wants is one special understanding, one hope of the future and one love to build the strength of our luo ethnicity.

Anywaks will not much talk about themselves it will be done by the others because the language, culture, identity, social and other is that gives respect to the identity of LUO group. Anyuaks didn't label themselves as a member of that particular group of Luo. Anywaa has special element in a set of structure with respect to Luo.

Scholars didn't write more on the group they write for Anyuak as independent tribe because they are disturbed by the neighborhood tribes and they have been look for place that the can gate peace. Anywak has self-affiliation and categorization to be a Luo.

I also appreciated the way you put things,
with the best regards,
your bro in Luo,

Samson

Subject: Anyuak Luo Identity?

Dear Okall,

I like this question. It is really a good question.  Even though I am an Anyuak, I don't even have a clear answer to this question. However, I will try my best to clarify what Mr. Okall has asserted about the Anyuak unclear Luo identity.

Since my childhood I grew up with oral history that most of the Anyuak knew that they are from Luo speaking ethnic group. The elders do tell the youngsters that the Luo are scattered all over Africa continent; some in Sudan, Uganda and Kenya. Up until I came to the U.S.A, I never heard of our brothers and sisters in Congo and Tanzania. According to common oral history that everyone I know knows is that Luo ethnic group were from three brother:  Niykango (older), Dimo (second) and Gilo (the youngest). What I was told is Jo-Luo of Bhar El-Ghazal, Jo-Luo of Kenya and Acholi of Sudan and Uganda were descendent of Dimo the second brother to Niykango, Colo (Shiluk) and Maban are descendent of Niykango and Pari (Jo-Anyuaa) and Anyuak of Ethiopia and Sudan were descendent of Gilo.

The question now why there is no trace anywhere that link the Anyuak to Luo? I really don't know. I think what the Anyuak have in their mind as oral history has to be in the documents/books, and also I think Anyuak or Luo scholars themselves—not non-Luo scholars, have do something about this unwritten history.

Thank you, Okall for the Q?
