A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after colliding with a wall in Gateshead. Northumbria Police officers were alerted to a suspected stolen motorcycle traveling on Whitehall Road, Bensham, on Wednesday evening.
The motorbike collided with a wall on the street, prompting the dispatch of paramedics and the air ambulance to the scene. The 21-year-old rider was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) with serious injuries.
The Northumbria Police spokesperson stated that officers on duty received a report of a suspected stolen motorcycle on Whitehall Road in Bensham. They arrived at the scene to find the motorcycle had collided with a nearby wall for reasons yet to be determined. The 21-year-old rider was taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
As standard protocol, the collision has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. The North East Ambulance service also responded to the incident and dispatched two ambulances, along with a clinical team leader. The Great North Air Ambulance provided support during the incident, and the injured rider was transported to the RVI by road.
