Telford Centre Evacuated Following Threat, Balloon Fiesta to Proceed

Telford Centre was evacuated today at 2pm after an anonymous call to the police made a serious threat. West Mercia Police conducted a thorough search of the shopping centre and found nothing suspicious. As a result, they have given the all-clear for the Balloon Fiesta to proceed as planned.

During the evacuation, workers and shoppers were moved behind a cordon, and public address systems announced the emergency and instructed people to leave the building. The announcement could be heard echoing throughout the town center as people waited on the pavements.

The evacuation also caused disruption to several car parks, with people unable to return to their vehicles, and the bus station was inaccessible to bus users due to the cordon. To ensure public safety, the police extended the cordon to include other car parks and areas outside the shopping center.

Despite the inconvenience, West Mercia Police thanked everyone for their patience and cooperation. They advised the public to report anything suspicious or concerning to security or the police immediately.

The Telford & Wrekin Council also reassured attendees that the Balloon Fiesta will go ahead as planned. However, they requested visitors to be patient and allow extra time for arrival at the site.

More information about the incident can be found on the official website of the Telford & Wrekin Council.
