Remember Today! The day many helpless refugees from south Sudan, the Nuba Mountains and the western province of Darfur lost their lives in the hands of the ruthless Egyptian security forces.

In Cairo two years ago where the Nile tells the whole story, many of our own found themselves face to face with the brutal forces of injustice at Mustapha Mahmud Square in the heart of Cairo. They were babies, young children, young men and women including the old as well. They all perished in a land long known since biblical times to have offered refuge to many including the family of our lord Jesus Christ. To escape the wrath of the Jewish king, Joseph and Mary fled with the baby Jesus to Egypt. Though these biblical scriptures would paint the picture of Egypt as a blessed land, yet there are sad parts to this claim.

Even more sad still, today the Egyptian press and media chose to remark this day by yet adding more salt to the injury by not only despising the way the Sudanese hosted the bloody tournament between Egypt and Algeria, but they went even as to abuse everything that is Sudanese thus disregarding all the songs being sung for the unity of the Nile valley.

Anyway I appeal to all fellow south Sudanese, the people of the Nuba mountains, the Darfuris and the entire marginalized peoples of the Sudan who lit the candles of remembrance for our martyrs who fell at the Muhandisin Square in Cairo to continue with the tradition even if the official Sudanese organs including the SPLM led government of South Sudan (GoSS) and its Missions abroad are scared to organise any memorial events for this massacre.
