Manut Bol the world longest man not tall is finally back to his home land Southern Sudan (born October 16, 1962) is a Sudanese-born basketball player and activist. Until the debut of Gheorghe Muresan, Bol was undisputedly the tallest player ever to appear in the National Basketball Association. In last 30 years ago, Bol is believed to have been born on October 16, 1962 in either Gogrial Sudan. He is the son of a Dinka tribal chief, who gave him the name "Manut," which means "special blessing." Manut Bol is eight, twenty ft 6.75 in (2.30.51 m) and 225 lb (102 kg).
In an exclusive interview with Manut Bol at Wau airport:
What was you really career?
My career was basketball I started playing basketball in 1978 and played in the Sudan for several years with teams in Wau and Khartoum. A coach from Fairleigh Dickinson University saw Bol play basketball in Khartoum and convinced him to come to the United States. Bol was drafted by the San Diego Clippers in the 5th round of the 1983 NBA Draft, but the league ruled that Bol had not been eligible for the draft and declared the pick invalid. He was then invited to Cleveland by Cleveland State University head basketball coach Kevin Mackey. While in Cleveland, he attended English language classes for several months at ELS Language Centers on the Case Western Reserve University campus. Although Bol never played for Cleveland State, its basketball program was placed on probation for two years as the result of providing improper financial assistance to Bol and two other African basketball players. Lacking a strong command of written English reduced his chances of being eligible to play Division I basketball. He enrolled at the University of Bridgeport, a Division II basketball school, and played college basketball there during the 1984-1985 season.
In 1985 I was drafted in the second round by the Washington Bullets. He played in the NBA for ten years, from 1985-1995, spending parts of four seasons with the Bullets, parts of three with the Golden State Warriors, parts of four with the Philadelphia 76ers and part of one season with the Miami Heat. In 1987, the Washington Bullets drafted the 5 ft 3 in (1.60 m) point guard Muggsy Bogues, pairing the tallest and shortest players in league history on the court for one season.
Due to my height and extremely long limbs, I was one of the league's most imposing defensive presences, blocking shots at an unprecedented rate. He blocked 397 shots during the 1985-1986 seasons, a rookie record. Bol tied for the NBA record for the most blocked shots in one half (eleven) and in one quarter (eight, twice), and he holds the all time NBA record for most blocked shots per minute, (.176). In a game against the Orlando Magic, he blocked four consecutive shots within a single possession. However, his other basketball skills were very limited, and his rail-thin physique made it difficult for him to establish position against the league's physical centers and power forwards. The sight of the tall, gangly, spotting up for a three-pointer during blow-outs became a fan favorite. Off the court,
Exactly Mr. Manut how long are but not tall?
Indeed I’m at eight foot eight. Twenty inches, so still the long(tallest) man ever among the tallest in the word according to the competition made in 1983 in Uk London to have played in America's National Basketball Association (NBA) league. When I was young and not felled sick
During youth time how much did you earned as best basketball player?
I earned millions of dollars in a 10-year career, setting records that still stand to this day. But things are different now. I suffers serious rheumatism, and my fortune has disappeared, largely due to his ceaseless support for Southern Sudan's during the struggle as largest rebel group, the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) were still in the bush.
Is it true that you were sold to American due to your tallest?
No, I went to America after his step-mother was killed in a car accident in Wau that expose me to Khartoum, Cairo and America, it was more difficult in Cairo to entered America with my sister because the US consulate in Cairo has said I must have the correct custody papers to bring my half-sister to the United States but they were interesting to me alone but the condition of my sister delayed us. Therefore, I have filled out the forms and just sitting in Cairo waiting to hear from lawyers. But since the 11 September tragedy, he has heard nothing, and he now waits in Egypt, living off money sent by relatives. "I just sit watching TV and what's going on in the news," he said.
How did you feel went joined American NBA?
Sudan's most famous; it is a sad turn of events in what has been an astonishing rags-to-riches story. His meteoric rise to fame took me from humble beginnings in the southern Sudan to the glories of the National basketball association (NBA), which made him probably the most famous Sudanese national in the world.
Did you experience any your culture activity since you were young before joined America basket foot ball?
Yes "I was a young guy from the Southern Sudan. We made our living taking care of cattle. We grew our own food," and many other. In 1972, I started playing football, I was injured seriously but not get discourage. "People were telling me, you know you're too tall to play soccer, you should play basketball," he said. Therefore, started playing basketball in 1979 and was soon playing for the national team. My supreme talents were quickly spotted and he was encouraged to head for the States to play college basketball. One of my fellow players acted as translator for me during the playing march. "It was very hard the first time, because I didn't speak any English,” adding that a fellow Sudanese player acted as translator for me.
"When everybody was talking, I thought they were talking about me. I got mad; I wanted to go back to the Sudan."
You are now in you really home land how did you feel?
Yah I feel ok because it’s was my place were my all relatives and friends were born so I have to come to staying with them, though there are many difficulties , then I have tolerated like other.
What are the main challenges you are facing?
There are many things that will not be mention all, but mostly temperature, mobility and therefore I have lose hope because not one I heard that is practicing who will replace me for what I had been practicing, I can be simply proud went there are some stars coming up.
Hence, people were shocked at first when they saw how tall I am, but my performance on the court soon won them over. I still hold the record for the most number of blocked shots from my first season - 397 to be precise. Fighting for freedom
Despite the fame and wealth coming this way, Manut's heart still lay back in his homeland with those he believes are fighting for freedom. The SPLA has been fighting an 18-year-war demanding more freedom in the south for the mainly animist and Christian population, from the mostly Muslim, Arabic-speaking north.
"I used the money to help some of my people back at home. And food during the red army in Ethiopia went I told to humanitarian organization about the hunger for my people, “too much food was dropped by WFP” If someone needed something, I had to be there for them,” "When you find that your people are living in a bad situation then you have to help your people. We thought that we had been forgotten by the world."
What attainment did you achieved during the struggle on behalf of SPLA as well as you were indeed love by the world due to you longest (tallest)?
Indeed not estimation but was given $3.5m over the years and has also opened an office in Washington to lobby the US government on behalf of the rebels SPLA. And despite this current circumstances, “I really regrets”.
"If I had the money again, I would do the same thing again," I may not play any more, but looks back on my career with pride and impressive modesty.
"God gives everybody something," he concluded.
