A fire that caused damage to a garage in Nepean, Ottawa, was started by an electric skateboard charger, according to Ottawa fire officials. The incident occurred on Aldercrest Drive on Thursday afternoon.
The Ottawa Fire Service responded to a 9-1-1 call from a resident reporting the fire in their detached garage. Prompt action from the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby home, which was just three feet away from the garage.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters observed heavy flames coming from the garage and immediately launched a fast attack to contain the fire. They were confronted with the added complication of live electrical wires from the garage to the home, which had started burning and posed a hazard. Despite the challenging circumstances, no injuries were reported.
An investigator has been assigned to determine the exact cause of the fire. Additional information regarding the extent of the damage and any other relevant details will be released as the investigation progresses.
