Washington District Attorney Criticizes Jim Jordan’s Attempt to Obstruct Trump Prosecution

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has issued a strong response to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, accusing him of trying to obstruct the prosecution of former President Donald Trump in a racketeering case. Jordan, an ally of Trump, had initiated an investigation into whether the prosecutor collaborated with federal officials in indicting Trump and 18 other defendants for their alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. All defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Willis stated that Jordan’s request for information about the case, specifically any communications between her office and the Biden administration, was an unjustified intrusion into an ongoing state criminal prosecution. She emphasized that Congress lacks jurisdiction to request information on the state’s criminal case and has no authority to supervise or interfere with a Georgia criminal investigation. Willis condemned Jordan’s inquiry as an attempt to promote partisan misrepresentations and asserted that the allegations of political motivation behind the case were unfounded.

In response to Jordan’s inquiries about federal funding used by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, Willis affirmed that her office has utilized federal grant funding for its intended purposes. She warned that any attempts to defund her office would be vengeful legislative action that would harm the citizens of Fulton County.

Willis also exposed racially motivated threats and acts of violence targeting her and her staff as a result of the investigation. She urged the panel to consider directing the Justice Department to investigate these threats.

The District Attorney conveyed a strong message to Jordan, stating that those who wish to avoid felony charges in Fulton County should not commit felonies. She emphasized that she will not be bullied or threatened by members of Congress or anyone else.

Overall, Willis vehemently criticized Jordan’s attempts to obstruct the prosecution of Trump and his co-defendants, asserting that his actions are against the Constitution and lack any legal basis. She defended the integrity of the ongoing criminal proceedings and called for the threats against her and her team to be taken seriously.
