Person Suspected of Shooting Relatives Found Dead

Authorities have announced that the person suspected of shooting two of his relatives in rural Kenney, Illinois, has been found dead. The car driven by Jose De Jesus Gomez Munoz, the suspect, was discovered near a wind tower south of DeWitt/Macon County. Munoz was wanted in connection to the murder of his father-in-law and the attempted murder of his son.

The incident occurred on Sunday when authorities responded to a residence on Kenney Road. They found John Wesley “Wes” Anderson, 78, deceased, and Kigan Antonio Munoz, 21, shot multiple times. Kigan is currently in stable condition at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Following a call received on Monday night, deputies from both DeWitt and Macon Counties located Munoz’s white Honda Accord near the wind tower. Upon approaching the vehicle, they discovered Munoz dead in the driver’s seat. The cause of death was determined to be from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Macon County Coroner Michael Day has set the official time of Munoz’s death as 1:47 a.m. on Monday. Day, along with the Illinois State Police, will be handling the death investigation. Munoz’s body has been taken to Bloomington for an autopsy, scheduled for Wednesday.
