Missing Hiker Found Deceased at McIntyre Bluff

The Oliver RCMP has provided more details regarding the discovery of a deceased male hiker at McIntyre Bluff on August 28, 2023.

According to the RCMP, an adult male went paddle boarding on Sunday evening across Vaseux Lake and did not return from a planned hike. His paddle board was found on shore, and he had communicated with his family from the top of McIntyre Bluff, sharing pictures that did not indicate any concerns for his well-being.

Despite extensive search efforts by Penticton Search and Rescue (PENSAR), RCMP, and search helicopters, the man could not be located until early Tuesday morning when he was found deceased at the base of McIntyre Bluff. The operation was visible from Highway 97 and nearby neighborhoods.

The RCMP is assisting the BC Coroners investigation and providing support to the family during this tragic time. Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth of the Oliver RCMP expressed condolences to the family and thanked Search and Rescue for their assistance in recovering the victim from the challenging location.

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers involved in outdoor activities and the importance of taking necessary precautions when engaging in such adventures.
