In recent days, a series of tragic accidents has resulted in fatalities on Kootenay roadways. On September 18th at 1 p.m., police responded to a collision at the intersection of Highway 3A and Highway 6 near Nelson, B.C. Upon arrival, officers discovered a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV. Preliminary investigations indicate that the SUV was stopped in the passing lane, attempting to make a left turn off the highway. Regrettably, the motorcyclist was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact Nelson RCMP.

Similarly, on September 16th, another tragic incident occurred on a Deer Park Forest Service Road near Castlegar, claiming the life of a young man. A witness reported seeing the lights of a vehicle and hearing the sound of trees breaking at approximately 8:35 p.m. Concerned, the witness made their way to an area with cellular coverage and promptly contacted emergency services. First responders arrived to find a pickup truck located off the roadway, down a 600-foot embankment. The driver, who was the sole occupant, had been ejected from the vehicle and was found deceased at the scene. Castlegar RCMP is working alongside the BC Coroner Service to determine the factors contributing to the crash.
