M5 in Devon Closed Following Serious Collision

One person has been injured in a two-vehicle crash on the M5 near Tiverton, leading to a complete closure of the motorway in both directions since 6am today (September 6). The incident occurred between junction 26 and junction 27.

Emergency services, including Devon and Cornwall Police, Avon and Somerset Police, and the ambulance service, responded to the collision after receiving a call around 5.30am. The road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning, and drivers have been advised to find alternate routes.

Reports indicate that there is currently heavy congestion on both sides of the road, with motorists still trapped within the closure.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that one person was injured and that the emergency services are on site. They also mentioned that the closures will be lifted as soon as possible, and drivers stuck in the closure will be turned around first.

To assist with the diversion, National Highways has issued a notice for road users. Northbound drivers are advised to take the A38 through Wellington. Southbound drivers should follow the diversion signs and rejoin the M5 southbound at Junction 27.
