Anyuak Leaders met with the First Vice President of the GoS and President of the GoSS
March 20, 2006 (Khartoum) - Anyuak community leaders met with the first vice present of the Republic of Sudan and the President of the Government of Southern Sudan in Khartoum. General Kirr tenderly welcomed the Anyuak in his office with open mind and heart. The meeting took place in the Republican Palace in the presence of Mr. Malek Agar. The Anyuak delegation was led by MP Isaac Ajeba Ochang, accompanied by Police Major General David Okwier Akway, and Muniira Abdalwahab [Anyuak woman activist]. The delegation addressed the current issues which are simultaneously affecting and facing the Anyuak people in Akobo and Pochalla Counties. The twenty-two years African longest civil war has huge impact on the Anyuak lives and properties. Anyuak head of delegation added that the peace is here and Anyuak can’t wait to see the real peace and tranquility ringing in their territory. It was vital to mention that the Anyuak lands have been terribly devastated by the 55 year South vs. North civil war. Development, security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and primary basic needs were the main theme in the meeting. The discussions dwelt mainly on the Akobo issue. The delegation was optimistic that what they have asked for will be certainly offered. The community leaders expressed their gratitude and positive impression for the opportunity they had with the First Vice President addressing the hot topics concerning the Anyuak people. The First vice President assured the eight persons delegation of the Anyuak intellectuals that their requests and concerns will be handled expeditiously and solved as soon as possible. The Anyuak deserve more then what they requested, Kirr added precisely. The First Vice President emphasized the role the Anyuak people played and the respect to the whole Anyuak tribe for their support, hospitality, generosity, tolerance, patience and peaceful attitude for hosting more the 2.5 million Sudanese fighters and refugees during the liberation wars. On the other hand two airplanes, caring basic needs and supplies and one electricity generator have landed in Akobo town airport on Sunday March 19, 2006. Our reliable sources cited that Makdell indigenous organization has been instrumental in providing the help. Staff Reporting
