12 April 2006 (Khartoum) – A senior SPLM member has called on the Government on National Unity to promote all languages and cultures in Sudan.

Mr. Edward Lino has urged the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to promote Sudanese cultures and languages as stipulated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.  The official was on Saturday addressing government officials, heads of diplomatic missions, and youth during the Youth Peace Festival at the French Cultural Centre in Khartoum.

Mr. Lino said that culture and languages are symbols of diverse Sudanese society, adding that there is no language that is superior to another.  He challenged the people of Sudan to criticise their own cultures before speaking against the cultures of other people.
