Watery Diarrhoea in Akobo.
May 8, 2006 (Nairobi) — The watery diarrhea reported in Gambella, Southwestern Ethiopia, has claimed four lives in Akobo, Southeastern Sudan. The deaths occurred at Alali, a village near Akobo town. Akobo district is out of reach by land from anywhere in the Sudan. There are no regular air flights. The lone NGO [Makdel] catering for the Anyuak has no medicines and personnel to handle health problems such as cholera or watery diarrhea. Therefore it remains in the hands of God to save these people suffering in their corner. Relayed information suggests that the disease started about a week ago. By this time it might have escalated.
