December 22, 2008 (Khartoum) — The Bari community in Khartoum issued a statement last week threatening to reject the Comprehensive Peace Agreement if GOSS fails to address land issues.
In a press statement to GOSS, the official spokesman of the Bari community in Khartoum, Swaka Phillip Lado, accused GOSS of using legal means to grab 70 percent of land in Central Equatoria State.
In the statement, the community demanded the relocation of the capital of GOSS from Juba to another town in the south.
The statement also blamed GOSS for what they called ‘a systematical armed robbery’ of Bari Community property such as livestock. They also accuse GOSS of failing to provide security in and around Juba.
The Bari community issued the statement last week after a meeting in Khartoum on 13 December to discuss land problems faced by their people in Juba.
