Olara Otunnu is thinking to run for President in Uganda 2011

January 8, 2010 (Kamuli) — Uganda Peoples Congress presidential hopeful Mr Olara Otunnu has said the party is back and urged supporters to understand that no body will import democracy and rule of law to Uganda unless they struggle to achieve it.

Addressing an impromptu rally in Kamuli on Thursday, Mr Otunnu said: “ UPC, the peoples party is back to sweep away corruption, care for the ordinary people and rebuild local household incomes though co-operatives and ensure children get quality education.” Mr Otunnu reminded the people of Uganda of American President Barack Obama’s message to Africa while in Ghana this year that they should be on the right side of history by fighting corruption, human rights abuses and ensuring free and fair elections.

He said Mr Obama will only help Africans, including Ugandans attain the goal when they are at the forefront of the struggle.

Own struggle

The former UN Envoy for Children the international community is ready to assist Ugandans rescue themselves only if they are ready to struggle.

He warned that people who are intimidating Ugandans and violating their rights will in future be dealt by bodies like the International Criminal Court.
