August 1, 2010 (NAIROBI) — Dr. Samson Kwaje, minister of Agriculture of south Sudan is dead in Nairobi Kenya. Samson Lukare Kwaje was admitted on Saturday in a Nairobi hospital with kidney complications for about three weeks.

Dr. Kwaje was from Pojulu Tribe from Central Equatoria. He served as the spokesman of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement and its military wing the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLM/A) during the Second Sudanese Civil War prior to the creation of the Government of Southern Sudan following the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) on 9th of January 2005.

On Saturday, President Kiir made a trip to the home of the deceased in Juba, to console his late comrade’s family  and to shed tears on behalf of a grieving nation.

“South Sudan has lost one of its great dear leaders,” Kiir told a small gathering of mourners at late Kwaje’s residence, according to a report written by Larco Lomayat for the SPLM Diaspora forum.

“The name of Dr. Samson Kwaje has been added to the list and names of martyrs, heroes and heroines who were martyred for freedom and justice.”

Reacting to the horrific news from Washington, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, the head of the GoSS Mission in the USA expressed his “shock” to NSV.

He said the passing of Mr. Kwaje was a “great loss” to the south.

“It’s a wake up call to all of us,” he said. “It should be seen as a way to unite ourselves and reach the promised land” in 2011,” he added.
