November 19, 2007 (NAIROBI) — Former President Daniel arap Moi and Ugandan Head of State Yoweri Museveni have said a regional authority should play a leading role in breaking the stalemate over the implementation of Comprehensive Peace Agreement for Sudan.

The two said  the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (Igad) was best suited to intervene and solve problems arising from the implementation of the CPA.

More vigorously

“They agreed that the Igad member states should join hands and work together in sorting out any problems arising from the CPA between the Sudanese Government and Juba-based semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan,” a statement from Mr Moi’s press secretariat says.

They also felt that the Assessment and Evaluation Commission, which is part of the CPA, ought to be allowed to play its part in the peace drive more vigorously.

Mr Moi was in Uganda to meet President Museveni and brief him on the outcome of his recent meetings with Presidents Mohammed Al Bashir and Salva Kiir of the Government of Southern Sudan.
