JUBA - South Sudan has officially become a member of World Kickboxing Federation after participating in world intercontinental boxing competition that took place in Uganda on 9th December, 2011.
The country was welcomed by the World Director of Kickboxing Federation Fritz Exenberger, Istvan Rozman of European Director of WKF and many member States.
The President of South Sudan Kickboxing Association Puro Okello Obob said his country would participate in any kind of kickboxing championship, workshops and giving certification courses under World Kickboxing Federation.
He said the performance of South Sudan during the competition in Uganda has given impression to WKF President and the member states that the country has potential in the field of boxing after winning the last fight although they lost the first fight.
“We displayed our talents as well we also learned a lot from the competition so it is of great advantage as a new member,” Okello said.
He further stated that it was the first of its kind in the history of South Sudan to participate in major important sporting torment.
For a country to become a member of WKF, it should have to be an Independent State, has a club and associations of which South Sudan fulfilled these requirements, Okello explained.
South Sudan has demonstrated of being victorious in two major sporting competitions in East Africa especially when Bilpam Warrior Volleyball team became the champion in the competition.
This is the right time for the Government to provide support not only in boxing and volleyball sports but in all sporting activities to boost the moral of youths in order to benefit from their talents.
South Sudan kickboxing team provided for themselves means of transport and accommodation during their trip to Kampala for intercontinental competition without any support from the Government side, Okello lamented.
