April 7, 2008 (Maban County) — The commissioner of Maban County says over 1,000 returnees arrived in Maban of Upper Nile state on Thursday from Khartoum.
Mr. John Ebo Monto told SRS by phone from Maban that the returnees arrived in 17 buses and 19 lorries. Mr. Monto said that brings to more than 3000 the number of returnees to the county since last month.
He said that he is happy to see his people returning in big numbers and called on the returnees to participate in the upcoming census exercise.
Mr. Monto said that he hopes the returnees, who are coming mainly from Khartoum and Ethiopia, will also participate in next year’s elections and the area’s development.
The returnees are being assisted by the International Organization for Migration.
