April 22, 2008 – (Akobo County, Jonglei) – Akobo County Commissioner Doyak Chol said the handing over of Wanding payam to Nassir County has been delayed because there is no money to organize a handing-over ceremony.

Mr. Chol said Akobo County authorities will hand over the payam to Nassir after the census, but only once they obtain funding for the ceremony.

Traditional leaders from Akobo and Nassir counties agreed last month during a peace conference to transfer administrative control of Wanding payam to Nassir County.

A long-standing dispute over the ownership of the payam was seen as the main cause of clashes between the Nuer clans living in the two counties.
