May 17, 2008 (BOR, Jonglei) –Tribal clashes between Nuer-Lou and Dinka Bor of Dukkeen clan, left 47 dead and 36 wounded after two days tribal fighting caused due to personal differences between two men on Thursday morning.
Uror County commissioner, Gatwich Dual, during a phone interview stated that a Nuer-Lou man wanted to exchange his calf for ritual bull. However, teh Dinka man declined resulting in his death by a gun shot wound.
Gatwich Dual strongly condemened the acts as many families had become victims in senseless killing.
The Disarmament policy calls by many leaders of within South Sudan and Jonglei in particular, have remained unheeded but with little done to disarm civilians. This has resulted in increasing death tolls within Jonglei State due to gun crimes.
Jonglei police have been deployed to restore calm between the two clans of Nuer-Lou and Dukeen.
