December 19, 2008 (Rumbek) - All cattle in Lakes state will be allowed to graze in allocated grazing lands once a committee of local chiefs and commissioners is formed to resolve grazing land disputes.
The move was announced by Lakes state governor Daniel Awet Akot, during a meeting on Tuesday which discussed how grazing land would be shared among communities in the state.
This decision comes after a long land dispute between neighboring Rumbek center and Rumbek east counties.
Our correspondent in Rumbek, Chris Marol, reported Akot as saying that police will accompany civilians to the cattle camps for security purposes.
