15-Year-Old Boy Admits Stabbing Teacher at Tewkesbury Academy

A 15-year-old boy has admitted to stabbing a teacher in a school corridor at Tewkesbury Academy in Gloucestershire on July 10. The teacher, Jamie Sansom, a maths teacher at the school since 2017, was taken to the hospital with a single wound.

The suspect was arrested by firearms officers about three miles away, two hours after the incident. A knife was also seized as evidence. The teenager, whose name cannot be disclosed due to legal reasons, admitted to one charge of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent. He had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a bladed article.

Following the attack, the academy was put on lockdown and two neighboring schools were asked to close their doors as a precautionary measure. Mr. Sansom was discharged from the hospital on the same day and reported that he is recovering well.

The defendant has been remanded into custody and is awaiting a sentencing hearing at Cheltenham Youth Court on September 28.
