Former President Donald Trump is organizing a fundraiser in support of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is facing legal challenges related to the 2020 presidential election. The fundraiser will be held at Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Giuliani was indicted alongside Trump for allegedly attempting to overturn the election results in Georgia. Additionally, he was found liable for defaming two election workers. In an interview, Giuliani’s son Andrew mentioned that over $1 million has already been raised for the event, but more funds are still needed.
In the wake of Giuliani’s legal troubles, The New York Times reported that appeals for direct financial support from Trump were unsuccessful, resulting in the decision to host this fundraiser. Andrew Giuliani revealed that his father and Trump had a recent lunch meeting, emphasizing their continued alliance.
Giuliani’s legal challenges have taken a financial toll on him. Before being indicted, he was already facing financial difficulties. In Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ indictment, Giuliani is accused of participating in a scheme to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory in Georgia. As Trump’s main lawyer in the election reversal effort, Giuliani faced professional consequences such as the suspension of his law license, FBI investigations, and various lawsuits.
Last week, a federal judge found Giuliani liable for defamation against Georgia election workers. The judge has ordered a trial to determine the monetary damages that Giuliani must pay to the workers for falsely accusing them of fraud, which will take place early next year.
Despite these challenges, Trump’s fundraiser aims to gather financial support for Giuliani’s legal defense. It is reported that Trump is also planning another fundraiser for Giuliani in the fall or early winter at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago.
