Last night at 11.56pm, a serious incident occurred on the A270 Lewes Road in Brighton. A black Jaguar travelling southbound collided with a pedestrian who was waiting at a bus stop.
Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene and the victim, a 24-year-old local man, was immediately taken to the hospital with serious injuries. As of now, he remains hospitalized.
The Jaguar involved in the incident came to a stop on Barcombe Road, which runs parallel to the dual carriageway. The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old woman from Reigate in Surrey, failed a roadside breath test. Consequently, she was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Currently, she is in police custody.
Due to the incident, a section of the southbound carriageway on A270 remains closed. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes or avoid the area for the time being. The police express gratitude for the public’s patience and understanding in this matter.
